Springcare - tips for spring routines!
April has arrived and we are in the middle of spring. We are experiencing brighter mornings and longer evenings, the birds are chirping and the trees are starting to bud. We find signs of spring everywhere and it's time to spring clean the bathroom cabinets.
We can pick up products with lighter consistencies but make sure to be extra careful with sun protection. If you don't use SPF all year round, now is the time to find the right sunscreen for your skin and get started on keeping your skin protected. The spring sun may not feel so hot, but the sun's rays affect your skin all year round. Now that the sun is out longer, it means we'll be spending more time outside and need to reapply more during the day. Therefore, we recommend you find a sunscreen that you are comfortable with and want to use daily. Depending on your skin type and skin condition, there are different consistencies and ingredients that may be suitable. Here you can read more about how to think when choosing sunscreen.
It is also important to think not only about protecting the face but all parts of the skin that will be exposed to the sun. We easily forget about places like ears, scalp, neck, décolletage, hands, feet and even our eyes. Sunscreen can go a long way but complementing it with clothing, hats and sunglasses is a good combination.
When it comes to exfoliating and more active products, this is of course good to continue using during the spring and even summer. The important thing to remember is to apply sunscreen daily and reapply thoroughly. Also stay in the shade when the sun is at its strongest. If you know you will not be able to reapply or stay in the shade, we recommend pausing your more active and exfoliating products. If you know you won't be able to protect yourself enough but still want to exfoliate your skin, it may be good to switch to something milder. Look for enzymes (papain and bromelain) and PHA (polyhydroxy acids), which are the mildest form of acids.
Some tips for gentler exfoliating products include By Wishtrends Green Tea & Enzyme Milky Foaming Wash & Green Tea and Enzyme Powder Wash. As in the name, these contain enzymes (Papain) that gently exfoliate dead skin cells and work on the skin's structure.
COSRX One Step Green Hero Calming Pad contains Green-Rx complex together with PHA which calms the skin and provides a gentle exfoliation.
After a long and cold winter, the skin can feel sensitive. Especially when the weather changes and the pollen returns, this can cause the skin to adjust.
Although the sun is out more often now, spring weather can be quite changeable. Cooler winds, drier air and rapid temperature changes can affect the skin's moisture balance and make it feel tight or sensitive. It's important to continue to strengthen the skin barrier with moisturizing and soothing ingredients such as panthenol, ceramides or centella asiatica. If you don't want richer textures during spring and summer, there are many products with lighter formulas that still provide hydration for the skin. The 7 Skin Method works all year round and involves applying several layers of your toner or essence, for example.
As always, it's important to customize your routine according to your skin type and condition to get the best results. If your skin is out of balance, it is important to stick to products your skin is familiar with and not start introducing new products. It is therefore good to stick to ingredients your skin is already used to but to look for it in lighter consistencies during spring/summer.
